Description:
Yelekkin (waistcoat, turk. yelek) made of dark blue and white striped cotton fabric called alatzia (turk. alaca) at the front and dark mauve silk fabric at the back. In the middle of the back is a vertical slit, which is fastened by a black ribbon. The front consists of two pieces of cotton fabric of the same size, which are crossed, leaving a semi-circular opening at the neck and a small straight collar. On the right side there is a vase-shaped pocket, half of which is made of alatzia and the other half of dark mauve silk fabric. The yelekkin is cross-buttoned, with a series of buttons set obliquely that are secured on the inside by loops attached to a black braid. Both sides have the buttons and the button-holes attached to both front panels, thus making it possible to cross the yelekkin on either side. All around the openings there is black braid. All the openings are embroidered with red, yellow and green threads. The waistcoat is reinforced inside with white cotton material. On the inner side there is a stamp with inscription: ‘‘Paragogos (Producer) – Georgios Filis – Lefkosia (Nicosia) – Kypros (Cyprus)’’.
