Description:
Yelekkin (waistcoat, turk. yelek) made of cotton fabric at the front and at the back. In the middle of the back is a vertical slit, which is fastened by a pink ribbon. Above the slit there is a triangular pattern made of black thread. The front consists of two pieces of cotton fabric of the same size, which are crossed, leaving a V-shaped opening at the neck. The yelekkin is cross-buttoned, with obliquely set buttons that are secured on the inside by loops attached to a black cotton braid. Both the buttons and the button-holes are made of black braid and seiritia (cords, ribbons turk. şirit/şerit), and are attached to the two front panels, thus making it possible to cross the yelekkin on either side. At the bottom and at all openings there is embroidery of black threads. The inside is reinforced by white cotton material. On the inside there is a stamp writing: ‘‘Paragogos (Producer) – Georgios Filis – Lefkosia (Nicosia) – Kypros (Cyprus)’’.
