Description:
Yelekkin (waistcoat, turk. yelek) is made of black velvet with a vertical opening at the front. The back and sides are made of a single piece of black velvet. The front consists of two equal pieces of cloth. At the bottom are two button holes trimmed with gaitania (braids), to which are attached two loops made of gaitania and buttons made of twisted silk braid. There is a V-shaped opening at the neck, around the inside of which is a striped seiriti (cords, ribbons turk. şirit/şerit). On both sides, there is a small pocket. The whole surface of the yelekkin is decorated with braids, seiritia and threads which create a variety of decorative motifs scrolls, spirals, lozenges and wickerwork embroidery which cover the whole surface. The yelekkin is fully lined with white cotton material. On the inside, there are two stamps writing: ‘‘Paragogos (Producer) – Georgios Filis – Lefkosia (Nicosia) – Kypros (Cyprus)’’ and ‘‘Orfanos & Zivanaris LTD’’.
