Description:
Yelekkin (waistcoat turk. yelek) made of black felt at the front and black velvet at the back. In the middle of the back is a vertical slit, which is fastened by a yellow ribbon. Above the slit there is a rectangular pattern made of orange, green and blue threads. The front consists of two pieces of felt of the same size, which are crossed, leaving a V-shaped opening at the neck. On the right side there is a square embroidered pattern made of green, orange and blue threads and the year 1912, also embroidered. The single, vase-shaped pocket is made of black velvet and green felt embroidered with orange and blue threads. The yelekkin is cross-buttoned, with obliquely set buttons that are secured on the inside by loops attached to a black woollen braid. Both the buttons and the button-holes are made of black braid and seiritia (cords, ribbons turk. şirit/şerit), and are attached to the two front panels, thus making it possible to cross the yelekkin on either side. At the bottom there is zig-zag embroidery of green, orange and blue threads. The inside is reinforced by white cotton material. On the inside there is a stamp writing: ‘‘Giorgos (George) – Hajipanaiotou – raptis (tailor) – Lefkosia (Nicosia) – Kypros (Cyprus)’’
