Description:
Yelekkin (waistcoat, turk. yelek) made of woollen fabric at the front and black velvet at the back. In the middle of the back is a vertical slit, which was fastened by a ribbon (missing). The front consists of two pieces of woollen fabric of the same size that are crossed, leaving a horseshoe-shaped opening at the neck. On the right side, there is a vase-shaped pocket made of two pieces of blue woollen fabric. The yelekkin is cross-buttoned, with obliquely set buttons that are secured on the inside by loops attached to a black woollen braid. Both the buttons and the button-holes are made of black braid and seiritia (cords, ribbons turk. şirit/şerit), and are attached to the two front panels, thus making it possible to cross the yelekkin on either side. The inside is lined with white cotton material. The yelekkin has twisted braids, gaitania and seiritia, which form a variety of patterns on the back. On the inside, there is a stamp writing: ‘‘Paragogos (Producer) – Georgios Filis – Lefkosia (Nicosia) – Kypros (Cyprus)’’.
