Imaging Technology
Methods of acquisition, documentation and visualization and holistic digital documentation in archaeological and Cultural Heritage research is nowadays a multidimensional process with many parameters in consideration. New opportunities and challenges for the documentation and the development of desktop and web-based applications for the visualization of those objects have been integrated in the fields of Cultural Heritage.
The digital processes used have been the direct consequence of advances in the field of three-dimensional (3D) representation, image-based and Internet-related technology. High accuracy, high-resolution and photorealistic three-dimensional (3D) models along with two-dimensional (2D) imagery can be obtained by using various methods such as three-dimensional (3D) photogrammetry and 360-degree panoramic imaging for the creation of a virtual representation of the physical object; in this case, traditional clothes which are located at various cultural institutions (Leventis Minicipal Museum, Limassol Folklore Museum, Historical Museum of Athens, Museum of the History of the Greek Costume of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women) were digitalized and are presented virtually for remote access and interactive visualization.
The presented clothes hopefully will shed light to the study, dissemination and digital preservation of the collections and will reveal new dimensions to promote research, protection, conservation, and preservation of garments as part of our cultural heritage.
