Description: 

Yelekkin (waistcoat, turk. yelek) made of cotton fabric at the front and at the back. In the middle of the back is a vertical slit, which is fastened by a pink ribbon. Above the slit there is a triangular pattern made of black thread. The front consists of two pieces of cotton fabric of the same size, which are crossed, leaving a V-shaped opening at the neck. The yelekkin is cross-buttoned, with obliquely set buttons that are secured on the inside by loops attached to a black cotton braid. Both the buttons and the button-holes are made of black braid and seiritia (cords, ribbons turk. şirit/şerit), and are attached to the two front panels, thus making it possible to cross the yelekkin on either side. At the bottom and at all openings there is embroidery of black threads. The inside is reinforced by white cotton material. On the inside there is a stamp writing: ‘‘Paragogos (Producer) – Georgios Filis – Lefkosia (Nicosia) – Kypros (Cyprus)’’.

The front consists of two pieces of felt of the same size, which are crossed, leaving a V-shaped opening at the neck. On the right side there is a square embroidered pattern made of green, orange and blue threads and the year 1912, also embroidered. The single, vase-shaped pocket is made of black velvet and green felt embroidered with orange and blue threads. The button-holes, which are made of black braid and seiritia (cords, ribbons turk. şirit/şerit), are attached to the two front panels, so that the yelekkin can cross on either side. The yelekkin is sleeveless with the front and back made of a single piece of material. It has a vertical opening on the breast, slits at the sides, and a small upright collar. It is lined with white cotton material, and the collar and vertical opening are decorated with brown, blue and red threads. At the collar, these coloured threads are braided to form a seiriti (cords, ribbons turk. şirit/şerit). They also form a braided strip at the vertical opening, with ten loops on the left side to receive the ten knitted buttons on the right.
